Southend manager Kevin Bond will begin the process of negotiating a new contract with defender John White next week.
With the current deal expiring next month the club are keen to get Whites signature on paper ahead of the new season.
Speaking to Chris Phillips of the Southend Echo, Manager Bond had the following to say on the matter.
“We would like John to stay,”
“We are currently in talks about extending his time at Southend and we have a meeting with his agent arranged for next week.
“He is a great guy and an exemplary professional.
“He is consistent and his body belies his age.”
White was a stand out of a very lackluster Shrimpers side last season and many will be keen to see his signature secured for next season.
